Default quantity of paint question (water based virgin)

hello,

color is 2013+ chevy or GM inferno orange.
Water based, going on JDM front integra 2 door with sunroof

I am not sure on the quantity needed to do:

full interior
jams
engine bay
external panels...

full paint inside and out.....

some say 2 gallons of paint and 2 gallons of clear.....

the paint store guy said I may only need 1 gallon of both....

The JEW in me wants to cut cost, yet the OCD in me wants to make sure the paint is done correctly the first time.... please let me know from experience

i found out the paint is a 4:1 ratio... 4 parts paint one part reducer? so 2 gallons is really 2.5 gallons of sprayable paint?

Are you going to put sealer before base coat or just straight to base coat because that can make a difference on how much paint you use. For clear coat, get 2 gallons. When I painted my car I used just over 1 gallon, and that was just for the exterior. Since you're doing jams, engine bay, and interior, you're definitely using about 2 gallons.

Get 1 gallon of each and just have the paint shop on speed dial if you feel halfway through you need more product. Most likely you'll need more than one gallon of paint since it is an orange which is a hard color to get coverage on unless you use a sealer underneath that is similar color. A gallon of clear hopefully should be enough but you can get two and just return the second gallon if not needed? A gallon of clear should do the job though.

Get two gallons for base, you want to mix both gallons together then reduce. No matter both gallons will be a shade or two different. When you mix them together you will have one paint of the same color and extra for touch ups. I love waterborne for metallic, they lay perfect and is very hard to make runs, just a pain to flash vs solvent based. Use a laser temp gun to check temps of your base, Water will cool the panel so when its back to room temps its ready to do your next coat.

Make sure your clear is ok to use with water, some wont and you will be screwed.
