Alternator replacement on a 95 Accord EX Wagon. This is a stock rated 90amp alternator.
First disconnect the battery. The manual says to remove the power steering pump but I completed the process without doing this. A deep 14mm socket reaches the upper alternator mounting bolt.
Remove the bolt holding the alternator harness to the power steering bracket to give a little more play room with the cord. Use pliers to squeeze the bottom side of the plastic clip holding the harness to the alternator. Remove the electrical plug from the alternator. Unbolt the 10mm terminal nut holding the front wire on the alternator. Lift the wire harness out of the way.
Remove the 14mm upper mounting bolt. Loosen the 10mm bolt that controls the belt tension and remove the bolt completely. Loosen the 12mm adjustment locknut and remove the bolt holding the alternator in the lower bracket belt tightening track. Move the belt off the pulley and remove the alternator.
Remove the little mount bracket for the wire harness on top of the alternator and transfer it to the new one. It is a 8mm nut. Put the alternator in place and install the 14mm top mount bolt loosely. Rotate the alternator as far forward as possible to allow for installation of the lower track bolt and belt tightening bolt. Rotate the alternator as far down as possible and place the belt back on the pulley. Pull the alternator forward pulling the belt tight ensuring the belt is properly in track on the crankshaft, A/C, and alternator pulleys. Tighten the track tightening bolt as appropriate. Tighten the adjustment locknut to 16 ft/lbs. Tighten the upper mounting bolt to 33 ft/lbs. Plug the alternator plug back in and secure the front wire in place with the 10mm terminal nut to 5.8 ft/lbs. Secure the wire harness back in place with the bolt to the power steering bracket and with the plastic clip into the upper alternator bracket. Reconnect the battery. Start the car and ensure all is working properly.
