Default d16y8 head on JDM D15 Block?

I just installed a JDM D15B vtec engine in a 2000 civic ex 5 speed for a family member. But this engine has the Furcking dual stage vtec (2 vtec solenoids) Right now I have 1st stage vtec is hooked to 12 volt key switched ignition and 2nd stage is hooked to the stock vtec wire. car runs like ****. Can I use my OE D16y8 head on this block? Tired of this dual vtec bull crap.

Yes, you can use the Y8 head on the block. With the exception of the VC, 92-00 D series motors are 99.99% cross-compatible.

Are there any negative effects in doing so? I take it the Y8 head gasket, Y8 head bolts, and Y8 timing belt will work fine? Luckily the Y8 head is complete with the valve cover still.

I generally stay away from frankenmotors for just this reason - it can get complicated. Do you have the OBD2 D15B, or one of the OBD1 variants? As long as you can get timing hardware to all match up (which, if it's an OBD2 block, should be easy), then you should be able to toss it together, use the EX ECU, and go for it. Or possibly a D15B VTEC (not double, just normal) ECU.

hey I know this is an old thread but I’m hoping I could still get a reply. I’m looking to do this swap to my 1996 Honda Civic Ex and I’m having timing belt issues. My belt is really loose when on and I am using the Y8 belt. Was wondering if that’s the belt u used and if u did anything specific to get it to fit snug.
