Hi.newbie here, need help to shut down big V8 guy mouth!
hello guys . Im new to the states but I've always been an import fan. Well problem is there's this guy at work we kinda have a love and hate relationship (go figure) but he thinks he knows about cars bla bla bla and he always put me down lol. He drives a slighty modified firebird and he always tries to prove his point on my import crowd. Long story short ,this is my little proyect. Paid $900 for it and I have 4 grand to spend alone. I see this as an opportunity to make a nice little build while humiliating this jackass. I want to go all motor to prove him once and for all that my 4 banger can be as fast ,if not faster than his little pos. What kind of engine swap and parts would yeld the best results??

got more info of his car. 97 V8, header, intake, exhaust, electric water pump, car fully gutted (no ac,no passengers seat, plastic panels out) lightweight K-member and suspension mods.dont knwo how much power is putting down, he wont tell me that!

More insight on the car lol A friend of ours said the car did 12.1 with bad 60ft . it also has Hot cams and is gutted to bare guts. I think I might have a chance if build properly! what engine swap do you suggest?

With only 4k? Totally gut the hell out of that shell, drop in a good condition, stock gsr engine/trans combo, throw a 100 wet shot of nitrous, and get sticky tires.
Re: Hi.newbie here, need help to shut down big V8 guy mouth!
Your "buddy" is trying to compare two totally different things if he's not letting you take boost or nitrous into the equation.
There's just no way.
Only thing I see possible in the 4k budget is H2B, straight skeleton shell, with cams, tuned, on slicks. To get under 12sec passes of course on all motor. K series would be too costly I think.
Re: Hi.newbie here, need help to shut down big V8 guy mouth!
Buddy of mine went 11.8 on a stock J swap with a tune. It would be a little more than 4k because he was on AEM V2. But the point is, to go low 12s with a B series or H2B, youll have to do a lot more mods and loose some streetability. I cant remember if he had the j32 or j35. with header, intake, exhaust and a tune. Went 11.8 on slicks Because its still a stock motor it drives like stock. Then you have a great all motor platform for future mods.

So...for $4900 total, instead of having a decent car to drive around, you're aiming to have a car that is a total gutted skeleton, sucks to drive, and is held together by tape and prayer....but runs a potential 12.0 in order to prove a point to a guy that's not going to understand the point anyway. And that's how you would "WIN" the race.
Along the same line, this one time, my friend and I had a bet to see who could withstand the most hammer blows to the phalanges. So I put my finger on the table and just motherfu&#ing vaporized it with a hammer. There was fu#&ing blood and semen(??) EVERYWHERE.
My friend looks at it and goes "damn. That seems awful. I'm not doing that ****".
I won the F#&K out of that.
But to answer your question, buy a big motor. Put it in a lightweight car. Discover how inevitable physics is. Its not rocket science...even though its EXACTLY how they design rockets.
Rockets, player.
A H23 bluetop is like $900. Buy that. B16 trans and H2B kit. Buy slicks. Remove everything except steering wheel, pedals, and seat. Go do it.
Or...buy a wrecked TSX, re-sell the good parts, ghetto fab the motor into the chassis. Remove everything as above. And go do it.
Re: Hi.newbie here, need help to shut down big V8 guy mouth!
not going to be easy, at all. best time i could pull out of a b16 was a 13.6 with itr cams/im. 1.6 seconds is an eternity. this is all very driver dependent as well. ive seen too many b16 swapped civics run high 14-low 15's as well. no turbo, forget about 12's. youll have your budget in headwork alone on a motor you don't have yet.
