Icon5 Drag build advice??!!

Ok guys I picked up a dirt cheap DA shell a few days ago, its sole purpose is to become a drag car. I'm looking for advice on what to build engine/tranny wise, as well as suspension wise. I'm more or less trying to get an idea of where to start looking for parts and what engine has proven to be the strongest. I did look into a dart B-series block, and was wondering if anyone has used one of those as well. I've been a mechanic for a long time but I've never had a chance to dive into something like this until now, so I figure the best thing to do first is ask the pros for advice.

Thanks in advance!!

Truth of the matter is, you're not going to be spoon-fed with advice from the pro's. This forum has been here for a LONG time (15+ years) for it to not have any information on different builds. There's a search button right at the top that will help you find pretty much any information you'll need.

Just figured asking up front would be helpful. Obviously I'm reading through threads as well.

Not to dissuade you, but the DA chassis is not exactly the best supported for drag applications..

That's partially why I want to build it. To be a little different. I've seen them down in the 9's. I can't think of the guy's name but the red one piece front end car is the one that started this whole thing for me haha

Also as far as budget, it's going to be a long process so I'm saving as I prep the car and aquire the parts so budget isn't a huge deal, I expect to spend $10k on the drivetrain if not more to build it right. And I'd like to be at least running 10's with it.

Ok based on the research I've been able to do with what little time I've had this is pretty much what I've concluded I'll need. This is without the turbo set up which I haven't been able to look into yet. Hopefully tonight I'll do that.

Engine
Sleeving 83mm, Bore hone, align bore, 3 main girdle, O ring, & build to spec.
9.5 to 1 comp pistons with heavy duty wrist pins / CP , WISECO, Arias, JE
Rods, Manley turbo tough
Oem crank
Balanced rotating assembly

Head

Port, polish, valves, springs, retainers.
Stage 2 cam shaft / Brian Crower, Web, Skunk2
Adjustable cam gears
Degree cams

you probably need to spend more than just a few hours researching. information on the internet needs to be taken with a grain of salt and needs to be diluted. and the only way to dilute it is to know what you are doing.

Oh I know that, this list was put together with the help of a very reputable engine builder. I don't plan to build it myself because of the type of build I'm doing I would rather have an experienced professional do it to be sure it's right.
