pm6 w/ v-afc or p28 on d16z6
i got a d16z6 in my hatch, and im currently running the PM6 ecu, with nothing activating v-tec. I can purchase a v-afc for 250, or get the harness and ecu for the obd-1 conversion...will my car run better with the p28 ecu vs. the v-afc? im leaning towards getting the v-afc and running that on the pm6 since it can be tuned, and adjust vtec wherever i want it, and im also considering boosting again.

Go with the p28. I used to have a pm6 and a pg7 with the vafc and since I converted to obd1 my car runs much better. Fuel can be adjusted with the vafc but I have heard that the p28 changes the timing maps in vtec but am not sure on this. But I do know that I will never go back to non obd while I still have this z6 in my crx.

In my opinion.....(which everyone else hates) I would get the V-AFC for 250.00 and use your orginal ECU. If you wanted to get the P28 ECU can use the V-AFC with it anyways. I got a Z6 with a PG7 ECU to run 3 mph faster in the quarter and the time slips would have been about half a second faster but killed my 60' times so it only was 0.03 sec faster.
here's another solution that i have currently on my crx with the Z6. For the first week i used the PM6 with a relay to activate vtec, but my friend had an extra PR3/PWO ECU(Mimic Mugen Program, 10k fuel cut, no knock sensor, vtec 5k) for the OBD0 b16a laying around, I also have a fields vtec controller. I have been using it for about 6 months now with no problems, although it would be nice to have some way to determine A/F levels because the program i believe runs rich. In the future i would like to convert to obd1 just to see if it had any "pants feel" power differences from the PR3. Does anyone know where to get access to the fuel/timing map differences from a P28, PR3, and a PM6, it would be interesting to look at.
As soon as I get off my lazy butt, I am going to go down to the dyno and test this once and for all! I currently have a y8 in my crx and I am running a pm6 with a fields Vtec controller. I have a p28 ecu and obdI dizzy, 4-wire O2 etc. I am using generic plugs on everything so that it is literally plug-and-play to convert to OBDI. My goal is to do a few pulls with the pm6/vtec controller, switch over to the p28 and do a few pulls. Hopefully this will put the question to rest, as I have been wondering about the same thing for a while now!
zCivic you don't get a crank angle sensor check engine light? I'd think you would with a dohc program on an sohc car. Either way if I can chime in, I'd suggest to go with a p28. If you have the z6 distributor on the car already, you might as well run the engine with the ECU it was meant for. Also there's a ton of good sohc vtec programs for the p28 ecu. Really you're not going to reap any benefits moving vtec around on that engine unless it's really really built, so you should probably keep the vtec kicking in where the p28 has it.

No wouldn't get the Cyl position sensor code because the SI diz has it internally where the ZC/teg its on the exhaust cam. Same sensor different location.
i would go ahead and change it to OBD-1. run the p28, get the z6 dizzy, injectors.. blah blah... and the 4 wire 02 sensor. its worth it. that is how mine is done....run so nice. then later you can go ahead and buy a vafc
