Default Civic VX Hatchback Door Lock Actuators Binding Problem?? (solved)

Hey, so I added power door locks from a 2 door 95 Honda Civic coupe EX. Both doors work most of the time when you hit the Unlock/Lock button inside the car. However, sometimes the driver side door doesn't lock and binds a little. The binding didn't happen every time, but it was always on the driver side. My friends who are certified electronics installers tried troubleshooting the car, but ultimately removed the rods that go to the "Lock/Unlock" indicator in the door panel. Currently, the car works fine. The only thing can't do with the car is manually unlock/lock the door with the lock latch on the driver side door panel. I have to push the button instead.

I was wondering if anyone can make sense of this.

Thanks!

If it's not terribly expensive I was hoping that the rods could be replaced in the door and the door could work as it should without it binding.

Right. Re-install the rods and go from there.

Unfortunately I don't have the rods anymore. I'd have to buy them from Honda. I was going to start with that last week, but my friends strongly believe if they put them back in the door, they will just re-bind again. So, I'm kinda wondering if it's a waste of money to get them?

Scout junk yards.

It made no sense at all to remove the rods in the first place. You now need to re-install the rods to identify the real problem.

I have had a similar problem. Especially in the winter when it's cold. Only if I used the power door unlock button on my remote (I don't have a lock/unlock switch on my car, but it's the same principle). Lock wouldn't unlock completely, and I had to use the key. Defeats the purpose of the remote, really. I have nothing of substance to contribute to this thread other than: I hear you, man.

Also, tell your friends who didn't give you your lock rod back to eat a bag. Stuff like that annoys me. "Hey, here's our half-assed effort at 'fixing' your car. You're welcome."

Okay, so I have some partial good news. I talked to a body shop I know who does really good work on old cars as well as new ones. He said he would take a look at it and most likely he could fix it. He even advised me that the rods are very easy to come by at a regular auto-parts store. Heh, with my knowledge, I should have known that. At least I have some options now.

Just as an update. I scored a rod from the dealer. It wasn't expensive. Now off to the body shop to have them troubleshoot it! I'll update more as it progresses.

Thanks for the help!

I solved the binding problem.

The door lock latch needed to be replaced. Doing that with the re-installation of a new door lock rod solved the issue.

Thanks for all the help. This topic can be closed now.
