s300 and dog box
Ive got s300 and was wanting to get a dog box trans...what are you using to shift it? is there a way to gear the strain gauge up? or could I use a shift **** with a button and use that to cut the engine for shifting?..any info would be great, thanks
its way faster to shift vs a synchro box even without fancy electronics. there are other ways to do it without a strain gauge, s300 dropped support for strain input around 2.1 or less. I guess the 22 year old processor just couldn't dew it.
o ok...I was either wanting to get a dog box or even the face plated gears?...but then im still on a oem gear, but im not really having a issue with breaking gears...its just cant shift it as fast as id like to
I have a dog box with s300, but I don't use any electronic shift support. but planned to try FTS. I looked into the strain gauge from T1 and was disgusted by the $1000 price tag for something I can have for less that $2 and a couple minutes of work to install it on my shifter, yes there is a youtube video how to properly install it. bad part is hondata does not support it, but I still think there is hope using it by converting the strain signal to activate a switch and installing that switch into the s300 FTS input, haven't done that part of the research yet.

I don't think the FTS in Hondata would help any. There's no fuel or timing change available, only a desired RPM to drop to. One of the main goals of a strain setup is to take the load off the engine by an alternate method besides the clutch and also keep the turbo spooled up. I've often thought of this myself, because 90% of the cars I deal with are still on OEM ecu platforms. I was thinking of either A) still using the clutch to shift, but use the clutch switch as an analog input to the ECU to activate nitrous tables and retard timing/manipulate fuel between shifts... Or B) try an actual strain gauge and voltage amplifier and send that to the ecu to do the same thing as option A. I've just never taken the time to mess with it.
Sounds like a good idea as well. There are always multiple ways to skin a cat with a stock ecu, it's just having to find your way to the cat that's the difficult part

ok I was under the idea that all the gauge did was cut the engine....but what really happens?..you want it to cut the fuel and reatrd the timing at the same time to keep spool on the turbo?
You'll want something in place to keep a large turbo spooled. If you take the load off the engine for even a split second, the turbo slows down and boost drops. So, you'll want to retard timing and possibly adjust fuel to get combustion later in the cycle and keep the turbo spooled. If not, it would be just like sitting still and revving the car in neutral.
