1990 Civic w/ D16Z6 - alternator replacement
Hey guys, I have a 1990 hatchback with a D16Z6. The voltage regulator died. Today I got started on replacing the alternator but I ran into a problem. The alternator is loose but I can't figure out how to get it out. When I had an EG I could pull it from the top, but with the EF there are many things in the way. Same with pulling it from the bottom. I was trying to do this without taking apart a lot of other things. But it's looking like that will be the case. Any advice? Thanks!
If I remember(it's been long time) you drop it down on the axle and slide it toward the wheel. Then it will lift over the axle and come out.
I remember doing this a while ago. I removed the driver's side engine mount and jacked the engine up a little bit which helped tremendously.
Which was better than my second option (removing intake manifold). Not as attractive...

^ I tried that. Jacked it way up. Still couldn't maneuver it out. Today I'm going to pull the driver side CV. Should be easy after that. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do something that drastic. The air intake crossed my mind too but I really really did not want to do that. I think the axle is the lesser of the evils. #engineswapproblems haha
