02 honda civic ex auto

I was driving in traffic when power from the dash went still had breaking power gas and was shifting. Pulled off the highway and lost the ability to move so I coasted into a parking lot. I know the alternator failed but would that cause my trans to go.

I'm waiting for a tow truck to get the car home I'm hoping I can give the car some juice and get it to engage gears. I'm just trying to understand why it wouldn't have engaged. Parking break works if that is any help.

Is there a tranny lockout or something?

 

Check the axles.
