i have a vague understanding, and i guess the purpose of "vtec" varies with each specific car??? secondary lobe, cams, better performance at high rpm, air fuel ratio....ok but can someone tell me in english, in what way is it performing better, if not to make the car faster or to improve mpg?

like i said VERY basic understanding, please dont be mean im only interested in learning, and eventually having a firm grasp on how my car works. gotta start somewhere ...TIA
