b18b1 forged build
I'm putting together a b18b1, aiming for 300 horsepower. I already have the usual necessities, forged internals, arp head studs, ect. I plan on boosting with a little turbo, and running a hondata ecu with a wideband sensor. My head and block have already been machined, and I have 81.5 mm weisco pistons. Question number 1: are the rings that came with the wiesco pistons strong/reliable enough to run in my build? I've heard good and bad about them, some people saying they'll be fine, and others saying i'll need Mahle rings. What are your guy's opinions? Question number two: I have a brand new crank, and I have yet to get bearings. I'm stuck between getting the ACL race bearings or ACL regular bearings, or just OE bearings. Any opinions? I'm not looking for someone to hold my hand though this build, I'm in my last semester at Butte College Autmotive, I know how to build motors, I would just like some opinions from those who've done it before. Question number three: Mirage Power makes what seems to be a pretty bad *** oil cooler system, with an external oil to air set up, which I would run upstream from my turbo. Has anybody ever used these mirage oil cooler set ups? What was your experience/opinion? Again, not looking for someone to hold my hand, just want to hear some opinions. I'm gonna use the Moroso 4qt. oil pan in an attempt to keep my oil temperatures down. Responses are not only limited to the questions I have asked, feel free to respond in anyway you please, even if it means taking time out of your day talk **** on my build. Thank you for reading my post.
They're more of a budget piston but fine for what you're doing... your pistons should have came with rings, I suggest you contact the seller and get your rings. An external oil cooler is the last thing you would need for a regular 300-whee build, the only reason people will run them on a lower power build is those who are doing time attack etc where heat is an issue.
