How'd you handle? I do have the oil burning issue. Curious about the process.

Ring replacement is what has happened in the past.

I received my letter about two weeks ago. Coincidence of coincidences...my oil light came on a few days after receiving the letter. First time ever. I was about 4 blocks from home so no big deal. I had driven 6600 miles since the last oil change. Oil indication was at 40%. So I call my local Honda garage who did the oil change by the way. Then called back 30 minutes later with a few more questions. Talked to a variety of technicians and advisers. Three hours after I had parked the car there was maybe a 1/4 inch of oil indicating on the dipstick. Two technicians and one adviser said when the oil light comes on there is no oil left. The other two people said that is just an indication that oil needs to be added. Anyway...added one quart and that brought it up to the first..lower...dot. Added another quart and that brought it up to just below the top dot. Sooooo...If the top dot is the "full" mark did I really have 2+ quarts still in the car?!?!?

By the way...I am taking my car in for "testing" on Tuesday. Supposedly what happens is I pay for an oil change and then bring the car back 2 or 3 times after 1000 miles each time for a "check". What this check consists of I have no idea. Look at the dipstick? Anyway, one of the advisers told me that I would have to burn 1.2 quarts of oil in 1000 miles in order for Honda to agree that there is a problem. I firmly believe we will all get screwed in this deal. Sounds to me like the rear brake issue all over again.

I'm on 300 miles of the 1000 miles test. I was pissed off that I would actually have to pay for this oil change.

So I'm 150 miles from completing the 1000 mile test and my oil is already at the tip of dipstick. Might have to go early and ask them to add some oil lol

I got the letter. Honestly, I never check the oil. It's a Honda.
I wait till it says I need to change it. Even then I never have looked. But it's an 09 with less than 40k.
98Bucket. Does your car smoke? How many miles on her?

That's the weird thing, it doesn't smoke "bad" I mean Hondas usually smoke when you put the pedal to the metal, but thats the only time it does smoke and not excessively. I got the car with 80,000 miles. Did it's first oil change myself when I got it about three weeks later I checked it and it was on the add mark (I commute alot for work)

Just went to Honda today, and the guy said it burned 3/4s of a Quart. I asked what's the deal how much it had to burn to get fixed? (I know its a quart in a thousand miles) and that what he told me. He said if in another 1000miles if it's still burning the same, he'll let me slide and get it fixed. (They topped it off today, going back in another 1000 miles to check on it.)

So after them checking it four different times, after a 1000 miles each check. Honda is going to fix it.

1st check 3/4qt burned
2nd 3/4qt burned
3rd 1/4qt burned
4th 1qt burned

They said it would take 3-5 days and they don't give loaners, so now I gotta find a ride to work.

Wow I wish I had known about this before I bought my 2007 and yes it has a rebuilt title which in my opinion has zero to do with oil consumption.

A 2007 is not covered under that extended warranty. So, it is not applicable to your car.
