Random no start. Is this a main relay problem?
I had the same thing happen in my GSR so I'm wondering if its the same problem.
Basically, especially on hot days my civic won't start. Its completely stock 92 Lx with the 1.5L. 280k miles. Other than this problem, it runs perfect every day.
But, randomly, I'll go fill up the car and go and try and start it, and it won't start. It'll turn over all day long, but not actually start.
Is this the same thing where I need to pull the 'main relay' and re-solder it?
Does anyone have pictures of this process for the civic? Where the main relay is? What needs more solder?
Thanks guys!

Could be your main relay, or it could be your ICM or coil in your distributor. When it doesn't start, turn the key to off, then back to ON(II). Do you hear the fuel pump prime?

ICM, is that the 'main relay' deal? If I CAN'T hear the fuel pump, that would likely be the problem?

No, the ICM is part of the distributor. Common point of failure, especially at this age and in higher temperatures. The main relay is up near the under-dash fuse box. If the fuel pump isn't priming, then yes, it's more likely your main relay. If your fuel pump is priming, then your problem is more likely your ICM or coil in your distributor.

You can find a how-to for replacing your main relay here.

this sounds like a main relay. it is in the driver's side footwell. says relay assembly main on it, hard to miss lol. open the little bastard up, and look at the solder joints. are they burnt/corroded/cracked? to properly resolder it, youll need better than a typical small solder iron. your best bet may be to replace if it is indeed damaged, as even a resolder does not always fix them.

I assume its worth it to try and re-solder it first?
Worked on my INtegra!
