Default testing VSS, while out of the car???

Does anyone know if there is a way to test the VSS of a car, while it is out of the car and disconnected? The one on my Accord is bad and I have a replacement one sitting on a transmission in my garage, but I want to test it before going through the trouble of putting it on. I know that while it is connected to the car I should read between 0 and 5 volts between the signal wires so I'm wondering if there will be some sort of OHMs or continuity between the signal wires while there is no power running to the sensor.

Any ideas?

Connect it to the car, spin the shaft, and have someone watch the gauge.
