How do I test the VSS? 1998 Honda Accord EX Auto
I saw a writeup somewhere online on how to test the VSS, but I don't remember where I saw it.
Car: 1998 Honda Accord EX / Automatic
Problem: Speedo doesn't work. I want to test the VSS first before assuming that it's the spoeedometer. The cruise control doesn't work either. Please advise?
I know there's a harness plug on the VSS that I am to connect my meter to, but I don't remember which wires are for what, or what to voltage reading to look for. I know it involves jacking the wheel up off the grownd so as to spin it while checking the meter for voltage readings.
Please direct me the right way. Thanks!

Re: How do I test the VSS? 1998 Honda Accord EX Auto (BoostdRex)
You will have 3 wires going to VSS. One is ground which is easily checked by looking for 12 volts across one of the wires and the positive battery terminal. Then you will have two left. With the car running one should have +5 volts across it and the negative battery terminal. Then you will have one left over. When you jack up the car and check this wire with the wheel spinning you should oscillating + voltage coming from it.
Check for all of these and if one is missing then it is your problem. If you have got ground and 5V but don't get the oscillating then it is the VSS. If you are missing ground or 5V make sure it isn't the plug by checking the for continuity between the wire before the plug and the plug terminal. These plugs are known to go bad on the older gens.
Good luck.
