Default Accord F23A1 vs. F23A4

Bought a 2001 Accord with a dead #2 cylinder. Pretty sure it's a hole in the piston (haven't torn down motor yet).

How do I know if it's the F23A1 motor or the A4 motor? There's an A1 in the title; not sure if this is the indicator.

Thanks,
Pete

Look at where the block and trans meet, look on the engine block side. Above the front mount, below the water outlet facing the radiator. There will be a pad that has a large casting of F23A* if the motor is dirty or corroded it may be hard to see. But you should be able to find it with a quick rubbing of a scotch brite pad to bring the numbers out.

*Below is an F22B2, but the numbering/location is the same.*
