Default Valve spring fell out of valve keepers

*Valve shaft fell out of valve keepers

Still having issues getting my 160k MT 99 accord 4 cylinder to stay running, and while running idle in parke the car shakes are quite big. Did a compression test and got 180psi on 1,2, and 4.

3 had 0 psi compression. One of the valves is quite low and out of the valve keepers. Could this be the cause of the 0 psi?

Please advise. Thanks!!!

yes that would give you 0psi.

That is what people in the automotive world call a dropped valve. Hopefully you have not been running the engine in this condition for very long. A dropped valve can very quickly lead to some costly engine repairs or most times an engine replacement due to repair costs.

If you remove the exhaust manifold you might be able to reach in and push the valve back up into place..... If the valve hasn't already been bent. Hopefully it hasn't bent the stem or sheared off the valve head and caused any damage to the piston. only way to find out would be to remove the head or find someone with an inspection camera.

after closer inspection it looks like you probably did some piston damage. the bottom of the adjustment screw looks like it has been mushroomed. That is not usually a good sign.

That's bad, mmmkay! You dropped a valve. The fact that it still runs is quite amazing. I wouldn't run it any longer though. You will need to pull the head, and more than likely, the head is trashed. It probably ruined the piston and maybe the rod on that cylinder as well.

I'll try the exuast manifold idea. I haven't driven the car since it happened. But I have turn the engine over about 8 times, running it for about 2 minutes each time.

I'll pull the head and see what going on in there. I'll probably start calling around to shops to prince out puting a new engine in the car.

What will that cost approximately out the door at a local shop?

Thanks!!!

buy a good condition used replacement head and install it yourself

aprox 300-500 since you'l prolly need a timing belt, w.p., seals, etc

hondur, when pricing engines around here in the area it looks like they can be had for 400-500$. The craiglist posts say the engines are tested and inspected. They have around 60k miles on them. I was hoping install wouldn't cost more than 700$ for labor. How many hours does a shop usually commit to an engine swap?

Hondur, one more thing where do you recommend getting a good conition head from? How will I know it's in good condition?

Thanks!!!

If you dropped a valve and trashed the head the piston in that cylinder is likely bad, and the cylinder walls are usually torn up.

you will need to call shops and ask what they charge for a long block replacement if they supply the engine plus the cost of the engine, and what they charge for labor of an engine replacement if you supply the engine. also ask what is warrantied with each.
