Default Different power antenna problem (97 Coupe MKV)

Hello everyone!

I have an unusual problem with my power antenna.

When I turn on the radio, the antenna extends fine and the antenna motor stops. But when I turn off the radio, the antenna goes down and the motor keeps running while making a horrible noise.

Do I need a new antenna? A new motor? Or is there a fix for this?

Thank you, have a nice weekend

Sounds like the plastic teeth on the mast have damage and the motor is slipping.....clunk, clunk, clunk.

So what you're saying is a new mast would solve the problem?

The motor just keeps running, even when antenna is all the way down.

When it is running after it is all the way down is it making a "clunking" noise or just hearing the motor continue to run

The second, along with a loud humming/clunking noise

Remove the mast and inspect the plastic tape/teeth of the mast.

Ill do that, will return when done. Maybe I'll try running the motor without mast.

I had to remove the antenna and motor completely, I could not, for the love of all that is Honda, get the mast out by itself.

It still wont come out.

It looks like the teeht on the cable has been gnawing on something down in it's housing as seen on the pictures.

Do I need an entirely new unit? Or is it supposed to look like that, and will a replacement mast be enough.

Last thing, HOW DO I GET THE DAMN MAST OUT?!

I found the culprit, it was one of the small gears that had been grinded away by the motor, went to a auto recycling facility, or what ever it's called, and found a car like mine with low milage, and it had a brand new looking antenna unit which I took off and installed.

Works like a charm now
