ATTN: double wishbone Street Prepared autoXers!!!!
did you guys get the newest GRM? page 156 at the bottom " effective Jan. 1 2003, cars prepared to SCCA Street Touring S rules may run in their respective Street Prepared class on R-compound tires."
does anyone else know what that means? should I take that with a grain of salt or have my wishes come true?

The only reason that i can think of for this rule is to permit STS cars with bodykits into SP as some bodykit pieces are not permitted in SP. As is, STS cars do not have any advantage to go to SP, since SP rules are MUCH more open than STS...

From what I read in Fastrack News, you can run your STS car, prepared to STS rules (including wheel width limits) on R compound rubber in SP. You will be in the SP class your car would run in if it was built to SP rules. But no picking and choosing of rules. You can't throw an LSD or 9" wide wheels on your STS car just because it's legal in SP.
This seems like they are just providing us STS guys a chance to see what their cars would do on race tires. I don't know if we'd have much chance against a fully prepped SP car.
{edit}
BTW, I seem to remember from FastTrack News that adjustable a-arms are under consideration for SP for 2003. You might want to check the last few issues on the SCCA site.

If they inted this rule to be like having IT cars run in their respective SP class I think it's complete BULL ****! Why the hell wouldn't they just make all STS rules legal in SP!
If they are running on r-tires then are they restricted to the 7" rim and 225 tire widths? Besides, without an LSD.....

The point of this rule is as stated earlier to allow cars with double wishbone suspensions that have camber kits like the skunk 2, King Motorsports, Ingles, etc. that are not premitted in SP to still run in SP with R compounds as long as all other STS ruels are met. This is just to give them a taste of the R compunds legally just like IT cars. And just like IT cars, they are not going to be competitve against a true SP car.

Just to clairify, I'm not complaining that the would be too competitive (I don't think they would be competitive at all). It just makes no sense why they would make this rule. The impression I get is that there are some STS driver who want to compete on r-compounds but don't want to further modify their car, right? So... whay was STR discontinued? Because there wasn't enough interest in it. So why would getting spanked in SP be more appealing then competing in a seperate class like STR?
STS drivers don't move into SP for one or more of the following:
1. They don't want to buy R-tires
2. They don't want to have to modify their cas as much as some top SP cars
3. They don't want to have to down grade some parts that are legal in STS but not SP.

It is just about allowing some flexability in the rules without letting it get out of hand.
i guess I kinda forgot about that.....damnit
why did they kill STR? now that I think about it I'd get murdered in DSP on 7 inch tires with no LSD....I don't care how much suspension development i've done....
well, still looks like i'll be running STS next season.....i'll still have fun, and that's all that matters!

It would make sense to me to make a lineal progression of mods so that moving up in more modified classes would never result in having to un-mod a part.
Stock->STS->STX->SP->SM
If all they want to do is to allow STS guys to have a taste of SP then they should make all STS rules legal under SP. This way all you would need to do is to buy some r-tires to "taste" SP.
