2002 Accord 4cly needs new transmission - Options? (vendors in Canada?)
Hi - I have an 02 Accord 4cly that needs a new transmission.
I guess my options are:
Used
Rebuilt
New
What do people generally recommend, used or rebuilt? Im fearing new is too much and the car is an 02, so.
My local general mechanic (not a Honda specific shop) quoted me $1500 for a used one, "if he can find one." So I took that to mean I should help him shop around - are there any recommend JDM shops in Canada I can buy from and have it shipped to the garage?
And can someone pls let me know the ballpark this would be, is $1500 used and $2500-3000 reman about right. These were my quotes.
Anything else I should know, or ask about?
Thanks.

Can't help with the search but....
I personally would go with re-built. The 98-02 auto trans are not the best so getting a used one would worry me. I would also be sure that the torque converter is replaced. Again the 98-02 seem to have an issue with over heating

If this is an autobox, look up Sonnax and the various issues/fixes the 98-02 transmission have. M6HA is the name of the transmission. 97-01 Preludes, 98-02 Accords, 98 2.3 Odyssey are the models that have that trans.
Any decent trans shop should be able to walk you through what they normally do for a rebuild of the M6HA.
Look around the shop to see how well organized they are.
Common problem is the pressure regulator valve overshoots and does not allow proper oil flow at lower rpms, starving the trans of fluid and causing overheating of the converter. Converter Charge Regulated Pressure Regulator Valve - 98892-04K - Sonnax
Other problem is some faults of the transmission will store a code but will not set or blink the CEL or D4 lamp. Pressure switches are two, if these fail the transmission will shift erratically.
Check for any stored codes first. You may just need to replace a component and not the entire transmission.
