I went to the Unlimited laps event on 2 Nov and got to try out my new set of Ferodo DS3000's. It was really the first track event that I didn't have to worry about fade. The pads look like they're a little glazed, but held up really well. The surface of the rotors are a little beat up to (more on this in next paragraph) but the surface doesn't look any worse than with other pads. I'm waiting for pics of the pads and rotors and will post as soon as I can.
Heat is still really a problem. I put two brand new Brembo blanks on for this event and they are badly warped. I didn't have any problems with my last set of Brembo blanks which survived a couple of track days, so I'm not sure if it was something I did (like using brakes harder this time), these rotors were just not as good as the last set, or if the DS3000's genetate that much more heat. I use ATE super blue and was still having heat problems too. One problem contributing to this may have been for the first couple of runs we really didn't have cool down laps because they flagged us in turn 8 and expected us to exit off in the pits. They took care of this in the latter runs and we had cool down laps (they may have done this after I over ran checker to get a cool down lap after some confusion). I didn't feel warping under braking until the last couple of sessions though.
I though I saw something on someone's website about them developing a brake cooling kit for the Type R. I thought it was Tegsport, Colletti, or someone, but I've gone through my bookmarks and can't find it again. Does anyone know anything about this or can someone direct me to it?

yes, they are.
-remove shields
-get better rotors (that are cheaper)
-cool down laps thru the pits (at slow speeds)
will
-who has not warped a rotor since the shields were removed from 154

Remove heat shields
Always always cool down (on the track or off in the paddock or outside the facility)
Once the car has sat for a bit (2-3 min) in the paddock - roll it back 6 inches so the caliper is not on the same part of rotor during the cool down phase.
Check your tires for melted rubber bits - this can make your car feel like the rotors are warped.

Can someone tell me. to remove the shields does the hub have to be removed?
the hub does not have to be removed.

and they shields can be put back on later.

I've never warped a rotor on my ITR. I have no ducting either. I beat on the brakes about as hard as they will go. Just make sure to do warm them up properly and cool them off slowly.
Also, when you're going for the brakes, keep the braking zones short and smooth.

Sounds like you had fun...
Thanks Willard for the pics on how to remove the dust shields.
As for better rotors (and cheaper; I thought $48/rotor shipped was pretty good), I thought the Brembos would actually be pretty good. I just wonder if there's being so much heat generated due to a lack of cooling that even they are getting beat on. I'm thinking about the Stoptech Aerorotors again and maybe I'll convince myself to spend the 400+ for them. Of course there is that big brake kit of theirs' that looks pretty good too. There was a WRX at Laguna with their kit. I will probably try another set or Brembos and see if the same thing happens again.
Any one have any idea about the brake cooling kit I talked about in my original post? I know I saw it on a site I visited recently, but I can't find it again.

(By the way if Sgt rings in...the prelude brakes on the fronts work...AZ didn't carry the rears though
)
Either Chris or Austin has them for their track cars. It utilizes stock turnsignal locations to draw air and routes it to the back of rotors. IM them.

Any downsides to removing the shield?? i mean it was put there for a reason anything you have to worry about???
-cooler brakes while on the street
-water/snow can splash on the back sides of them and prevent quick stopping.
I cut mine so they could be (and are) installed after the track weekend.

Anybody know anything about ITR brake cooling kits? I know I saw something, but just can't find it now.
