Under/behind the glove box door there will be two blue connectors, pull down the two wire blue connector. Using a wire, jumper the two wire connector. Turn ignition to II(ON) and watch the CEL, D4, ABS, SRS lamps for blinking.

" _ " blinks are codes of one.
" ___ " are codes of ten.

If the D4 lamp were to blink " _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ " that would be a code nine(9).
If the D4 lamp were to blink " ___ _ _ _ _ _ " that would be a code fifteen(15).

The codes will repeat, watch every warning lamp for blinking.
Keep watching until you are sure the codes you have collected repeat.

Thanks Mike, I jumped the wires and the D4 light blinked 1 long and 5 short blinks. What does that mean? That was the only code there was.

Where it is the D4 light flashing, that indicates a transmission control unit (TCU) error.

Well if there is no extended pause between the 1 long and 5 short. That would indicate a TCU error code 15 = Kick down switch circuit shorted.

If there is a pause then it could be a code 10 and 5.
5 = Shift Lever Position Switch circuit shorted.
10 = Coolant Temperature Sensor open or shorted.

D4 code 15 is for the main shaft speed sensor located in the right side cover. If the sensor is faulty or, more commonly, gummed up with slurry on the pickup the transmission will shift roughly or erratically.
Verify the electrical connection is clean and tight.
Verify the resistance is within spec 400-600Ω IIRC.

Remove 10mm headed bolt, disconnect electrical connector, twist sensor to break it free, and gently prise it up and out of the transmission.

#15 in the below diagram...

I think the TDC codes listed in the honda tech "how to read codes" FAQ should be updated...lol

Checked my shop manual an it clearly states speed sensor... My bad, sorry for the misinformation.
Sometimes I am just to quick with my Google searches.

Thanks for the help, I will clean it up and see what happens. How can I clear the code when I am finished so I can see if it is fixed? Thanks

Pull the memory fuse, or disconnect the battery to clear the code.
If your car has the factory radio with security code, make sure to have the code otherwise it will not work.
