00 Civic boosted white smoke from exhaust
So I have a 00 Civic Hatchback DX, D16Y8 boosted 17lbs, engine is fairly new. Fully built. 1,300 miles on it. I put some cheap 5w 30 in it. Made it 2-3 blocks down the road and see HUGE clouds of smoking coming from my exhaust I pull over. I take the car back home rolling clouds down the road. Let it sit over night while I do some research, it wasn't overheating. Never beat on it hard. Coolant was full. People say its a blown head gasket, I did hear coolant bubbling, but I took the radiator cap off and cranked the car and didn't bubble. There is clear moisture in the exhaust. I'll be doing a compression test, and leak down test tomorrow. If anyone has any ideas or anything to check please let me know.
Make sure your oil filter is tight, not pinching a wire or something. Obvious. (My buddy pinched a wire once, had no seal, spewed oil everywhere. Burned off the exhaust.)
Leak down and compression test tells all.

For some people it's hard to distinguish between coolant and oil smoke.
Coolant produces a thick white smoke that looks like dense fluffy clouds and has a sweet smell to it. It tends to be heavier than air and hugs the ground
Oil also burns white but it has a blue tinge to it and is much thinner and smells horrible.
If it's a head gasket then you should be able to take the oil cap off and see a milkshake looking substance inside the motor, also when you remove the radiator cap you'll see what looks like an oil slick and possibly some of that milkshake stuff floating in the coolant. Not all blown head gaskets will cause the coolant to bubble, it takes a very large area of the gasket failing to produce this and then there would be no doubt about a head gasket because it would look like a 007 smoke screen and the engine would start misfiring horribly, to the point of being un-driveable.
Typically oil either means one or more bad valve stem seals or more likely a turbine side oil seal failure. Depending on how bad the seal failure is you should be able to see oil seeping out between the turbine housing and down pipe and possibly between the turbine housing and CHRA. Also the drag from the seal failure and loss of lubrication means the turbocharger will build pressure much much slower and might not be able to reach your maximum boost pressure.
A compression test would tell you if there's a large head gasket leak, otherwise it might take a leak down test to know for sure.
