Default swap advice

I have a 91 Civic 1.5L and I need MORE POWER. I'm going to do an engine swap and don't know which engine is best. I want a K20A or an H22A, dreaming? Tranny swap too, of course. Doing the install myself, any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Find a budget and go from there. These cars are light, so power isn't really a problem. You should look to include several supporting mods when you start increasing the power. There is no 'best engine' either. I would look into a B18C swap, LSD hydro trans, hush conversion pedal, Koni/GC coils, traction bar, and some decent summer tires. If your budget is big enough for a K-swap (which is cheaper than they use to be), go big.

The B16B, CTR, engine is pretty cool. It is nearly 'perfect' from an engineering standpoint. It is more of a novelty when you consider the cost though. They are pricey compared to a lot of the more common B-series swaps.

Just something to consider.

I bought a B16A (gen II SiR), cable trans, ECU, harness, axles, hasport mounts, and some other pieces for $1,200. That's what I meant by pricey compared to some of the other B-series swaps.

B16b is a gsr block just destroked to 1.6 for safe revs at 9k from factory
So if you want a 1.8 just put in a gsr or type r crank and then u have a higher compression than type r I believe around 12 5 1 to 13 0
1.8 motor no need to buy crappy aftermarket stuff

If you start messing with 12.5:1 or 13:1 compression, you will need some serious tuning. 13:1 compression is pretty high and the factory ECU will not handle the change well. The OP hasn't replied, I assume he isn't serious.

U will need a custom ecu map anyways so it's nothing to re tune if he wanted to go wild

You don't need a custom ECU map if you use a stock motor with a stock ECU. You can actually get by on a base map for a stock motor if you have to source a chipped ECU.

You just need an OBD0 to OBD1 harness adapter for the car, OBD1 electronics and run the motor on a chipped ECU. A chipped ECU isn't 'tuned' as far as I'm concerned. Getting a ripped base map for a GSR to run off of a P28 ECU is about $150. Getting a car with a frank'n'crank dyno tuned with 12.5:1 compression is probably closer to $600+cost of the ECU.

When I ever get around to a swap, I think I'll just go b16a stock, with obd1. It's like dude says, it's a good beginning swap.
