oil burning in 2012 civic si
hows everyone doing and ide just like to say thanks for the help when my post is answered... I bought a 2012 si about a month ago and 2 weeks into owning the car i noticed i burned 4 quarts of oil so i thought maybe bc i have been ripping on the car alittle much maybe that was the reason why so i did a full oil change with Mobile 1 0-20 like the car requires with a bosch oil filter. Later on that week my oil light came on again. AGAIN about 4 quarts low. So another oil change. That was 2 days ago. No oil burning as of right now, but just in case, has anyone with the same year SI had these problems as well, and if so, what was wrong with the car. By the way the car only had 49,000 miles and it when purchased and currently has 52,ooo. I do have a powertrain warentee but would like to diognose it before i bring to deal. I just dont trust those scam artists. Thanks for all the help and look foward to your responses..... MIKE
I would do a compression check immediately. No car should burn that much oil ever. Also I would switch to motul Ecolite 0w-20. I have been running it in my 2015 civic si 4dr since I bought it. Never burn any oil even with aggressive canyon driving.
If you need a shop check out corner speed tuning in Huntington Beach. John the owner can help you and he normally has the motul in stock.

Do you see any smoke while driving? If you do is it under acceleration or deceleration?
Have you checked for any leaks? Have you checked to see what color your coolant is (is it brown or foamy)?

This is a common problem with the 2012 Si's.
A recall has not been issued that I'm aware of, but a service bulletin did go out. Their answer is, as you might expect, a bottom end rebuild (pistons and rings).
I've got a link to a thread about it here:
Honda Service Bulletin 12-069 - Excessive Engine Oil Consumption - 10/23/2012
