Correct Exhaust Gasket (Donut) for Megan Racing Header on D16Y7
Hi All,
Over the weekend, I installed a Megan Racing 4-2-1 header (p/n D16SS) and a Tanabe Medalion Concept G Cat-Back exhaust system in my 2000 Civic CX hatchback. I will add in a high-flow catalytic converter later, but, for now, the exhaust mates perfectly to the header collector flange...well, except for a small snag. The Megan header has a 2-in collector outlet. The donut gasket they provided seemed excessively oversized (perhaps 2-1/8 I.D.). The Tanabe exhaust is 2.25-in diameter but necks down at the leading flange such that it could interface with the stock maniflold and take-down pipe if desired. When I tried to connect the gasket joint using factory spring bolts, the tapered end of the gasket was too big to fit into the Tanabe inlet and just got crushed. Several large chunks broke out of it and I'm sure it will leak in the near future.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with the donut gasket supplied by Megan Racing being too big? Further to that, has anyone found another gasket that fits appropriately? I'm guessing it has to have an accurate 2-in I.D. and am curious what O.D. and length would work best. It seems like none of my local parts stores stock many donut gaskets anymore or I would grab a handful and try them all. Thanks in advance!

Walker 31357 has exactly 2" ID. Should just barely squeak over your header pipe.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is that Walker gasket used somewhere on the Civic EX? Has anyone tried it with a Megan Header? I notice that it's 0.5 thick. The factory donut on my CX was quite a bit thicker. I think I'll order one and try it.
A quick look at the "applications" tab on Summit's site confirms that it is used on a number of Hondas that don't have the integrated cat/manifold. I hope the taper will fit into the Tanabe.
Just an update in case anyone else runs into this issue. The gasket supplied by Megan Racing was just plain too big (it was a 2.25 I.D.) both the outlet on my header and the mating flange on the Tanabe exhaust are 2-in. I was able to find the Walker gasket with part number 31-357 at a local NAPA store. It fits beautifully! Special thanks to TomCat39 for the part recommendation. This is the gasket that SHOULD have come with the Megan Racing header.
