Default Power Locks and Window Kit

Anyone have any experience with this universal kit, or a kit like this? Would love to have power windows and locks in my 1990 Civic Hatch. Just want to get some opinions before I buy.

In the next month or so I'm getting an alarm installed along with power door locks (the universal type). No power windows sooo yeah, I'll check back in after installation is complete to let you know how the door locks are working and if any issues arise.

I've used locks off of cars that came with them and they work just fine. The locks are simple, same with the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry stuff. The power windows are little less simple. The cog is tougher to hide than the actuator. They do work though. Just make sure you don't get anything with too much torque or it will just shred the plastic cogs.

It can be done with sedan parts too...the EDM stuff is silly expensive, if you can find them.
The aftermarket kit doesn't look bad at all, but the install will make or break you.

switches are the only real problem that requires a bit of creativity.

Well a went ahead and had the the alarm installed along with universal power door locks. Picked it up after they were done with the install, went home no problem with doors locking. Went out to watch a movie with my better half and the passenger door would not lock with the remote. Took it back to the shop the next day (yesterday, Sunday) and they said it was just a bad solenoid so they went ahead and replaced it, no issues since.

The nice thing about the system I went with is that as soon as I turn the ignition switch to the on position the doors automatically lock and as soon as I turn the car off the doors automatically unlock. Just like my wife's Acadia and my Chevy truck or any new car out there doh! Anyway, I'm glad I went with the power door locks.

one problem you may want to keep in mind with such an alteration is the membrane that keeps the moisture out between the door card and inner door is usually cut and not fixed by those who install such items. I had a real fun time taking one of these aftermarket lock/alarm systems out of my 91 hatchback that was graciously applied by the previous owner. I guess if you live in a dry climate or don't really mind if water is penetrating the door its fine. those door membranes are not available anymore from honda. I made a custom out of 6mil clear plastic after removing all the trash that was added to the door locks its water tight now. you may want to pop the door card off and just take a peek. years of not paying attention can really cause problems in the seatbelt system if it is a door mounted seatbelt. regardless water penetration kind of is not good if it goes unchecked.

Glad you brought that up since I forgot to mention that part. The installers did tear into the moisture barrier that Honda installed at the factory. Easy fix, just get yourself some plastic sheathing from your local hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot and the like) and some "putty" to seal around the tear or redo the complete door. I forgot were I got the putty stuff could have been Home Depot or from my friend from auto body shop.

I used the same technique to "moisture proof" the door panels on my 1958 VW bus, worked great.

replacing or repairing those generic door lock solenoids gets old about the 6th time you need to tear into the door.

just sayin.

Well crap, that's something I didn't want to hear, I hope I don't have to keep replacing them. Is there an OEM door lock kit I could have used instead of these universal ones?

Well only time will tell if there is a better lock out there I will replace it when my locks give up the ghost.

door lock actuator from a DA integra worked, barely, in my 88 CRX. had to shoe horn it in there. not sure with door reinforcements in later models if it will still fit.
http://www.crxcommunity.com/viewtopi...=31145#p488301 linked it earlier.

just saying theres OEM options if you really wanted to go there. theyre going to be a lot more reliable than kludging some generic actuator, on a flimsy piece of sheet metal, and tie rod and brass coupler with set screws that will eventually get loose or bind.

been there done that, your mileage may vary.
