my g/f has a 92 honda civic 4dr. she just recently bought it and the speedometer is not working properly. sometimes when we drive the car it wont show how fast we are going. it only works once and awhile. is there anything i can do in order to fix this?

 

there is a plug on the back leftish side of your motor, it is most likely out. it controls your speedometer. it clicks right in and out. just look on the back left side, then you can see it.

i forgot to put my back in when i swaped my fly.

if your getting a check engine light
its most likely your vss sensor

 

i doubt it is out because the speedometer will work sometimes and then other times it wont work at all.

well her check light engine is on so it prolly is that VSS sensor..so all i need to do is change that and i'm good to go? also how much would this part cost?

or check the ignitor in her distributer, then if you replace that and it isnt fixed follow the blue wire and look for loose connections.

 

i was having the same problem with my ek for a while, it worked when i got above about 75, then it would work for a while and jump around when i went slower. the problem was the plug in the back of the cluster, it just wasnt pushed on all the way and there was a ilttle corrosion in the connection..

 

i have some problem with my speedometer too, it jumps up and down when i step on the gas. at first i thought it was the cluster, but i've changed the whole cluster out and it's doing the same thing..and yes my check engine light is on, but i dont know where to plug the paper clip on to check it, any help? oh it's a ek..thanks

 

prob vss. I think when I priced mine for my car it was over 100 bucks.
