Cracked Engine Block Resolution (06 4d EX)
Hi, all
I don't normally post in this section, but I wanted to let you guys know how Coggin Honda of S. OBT in Orlando resolved the cracked engine block issue for me if anybody needs to reference.
My girlfriend has an 06' EX 4d with the R18a engine that started to **** coolant out of nowhere, seemingly from the passenger side of the engine. The sucker got hot enough to steam and had to cool off and be refilled before it could limp the 1/4 mile home.
I had to take the alternator off because I initially thought it was the water pump or the o-ring on the pipe, but the coolant had no visible origin and was just behind the alternator and near the exhaust.
I rented a pressure tester and pressurized the system with the alternator off to see a freaking fountain from the front of the engine block... Needless to say, I did some research and took it in and just BARELY made it by blasting the heater.
Some key notes of this process at the dealer:
1. Honda will give you the new block if you're under 10 years (INFINITE MILEAGE) from the original vehicle invoice date of the original owner.
2. If they find ANYTHING old or out of adjustment such as spark plugs, valve clearance etc, they will not warranty the new block from there after unless you pay THEM (supposedly) to fix the issue on the spot.
3. They will only give you the new engine block and associated gaskets and fluids, all done with free labor. No new whole engine.
4. 3 days is the average quoted time for engine replacement.
5. They SHOULD give you a rental car for free since it's a recall. (Might not have to?)
Cliffs:
Cracked block
Free rental car
Free block, fluids, gaskets ONLY (labor and replacement)
A dealer actually came through for once
PS: Tech said he's only seen two cracked blocks in two years. Guess I'm unlucky.
