Icon2 Cam Degreeing upon assembly

This may be a stupid question but here goes anyway. I understand the purpose of degreeing your cams (especially aftermarket cams) when you are building the motor.

When looking at degreeing kits the dial gauges always are attatched to magnetic bases. i.e. http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...1056/overview/

Just about everything in Honda Heads are aluminum so not magnetic. I've seen the gauges in place on a couple of posts here at H-T but could not see how they were attached.

What is used to hold the dial gauges in place with Honda Heads? Or is there a spot the magnetic base goes when setting up the dial gauges that is not seen in most of the pics I've seen posted?

What I do (and most people I have seen do) is attach a metal plate to the head. You can use the exhaust and intake gaskets as a template to drill off of. Or even the power steering bracket holes or wherever works for what you have. If you have access to a welder or can bend metal, it would be preferred to have a plate run parallel to the valve cover mating surface. Sorry, I don't have pictures of this.

For B-series I have the cam fixture set. It is too tight down there and having the fixture is well worth the cost in my opinion.

That makes sense.

For whatever reason, that never occurred to me and is such a simple solution.

Thanks!
