Check Engine No Link OBD2 Scanner on H22 Motor Swap, help!
Whats goin on guys? The issues pretty clear it seems. Allow me to reitterate tho, Got this 2000 Lude that has a Cel. Had a motor swap and I cant find out what the Light is on for. Ive read that doing a swap and leaving the ecu as is will fry ecu which is probly why it had no link. Ive also read that the only thing to do is to take it to the dealer. What do you guys think? Im trying to take care of any problems with her before I upgrade some things. Let me know whats up
Oh, I responded to this problem in your other thread since you mentioned it.
But the gist of it. Since I know now you have a 5th gen, you should have a P5M. My friend had the same problem as you. Wouldn't scan. Turned out he was running a 92-95 Civic OBD1 ECU. Don't remember the ECU code, but it sure wasn't the right one.
But like Thirsk said, maybe the reason is already in the code. Long blink=10, short blink=1. Add 'em up.

hold on, yea its a 5th gen(2000). Im not exactly sure what you guys mean with the paper clip testing. I dont have the most experience with Ludes lol.
Im gonna check my ecu in the morning when its light outside. Besides the CEL, if its not a p5m, I should def get one in there, Im sure.?
Yeah. Gotta be a p5m unless of course u have anything other than the stock original oem h22 that came in the car.
And what he is saying with the paperclip did you find that blue connector you straighten the paper clip out and bend it in half and then you plug each end of the paperclip into each side of the connector it will jump the ECU and blink the code

What ecu are you running is an obd2 or an obd1 computer? And according to the blinks you got a code 18 which doesnt exist. Could you have miscounted? Im in agreement with backinblue92 on this one you may have an obd1 ecu in there which is why your scanner wont read the codes stored.

I'll probably find a p5m ina few weeks when Mira's in perfect running condition because the ecu itself is the least of my worries at this point.
It sounds to me like you need to verify what is in the car first, or you are just chasing your tail in circles.
Figure out what engine is in the car first of all, since it is not original.
Actually pull up the carpet and cover, and see what the code is on the ecu in the car currently, and if there is any kind of "jumper harness" between the wiring of the car and the ecu.
Take a look at the wiring in the engine bay, both to the distributor, and to the bottom drivers side on the engine in the back, to see if the crank sensors that mount on the oil pump are there or not, and plugged in and working if they are there.

Here are pictures of the obd1 ecu versus the obd2a ecu, and the actual ecu itself so you can verify or tell between the two. Tell us which one you have so we can further assist you. The obd1 ecu is long and has a rectangular housing, the obd2 has a squared housing.

Yea thanks man. Im tryna figure out how putting a new ecu works. I hear talks of the immobilizer and locks and keys and things like that. But can I just plug a new one in off ebay or do I need more than that
Ok well that depends on mainly if you are using an obd2 or an obd1 ecu with jumper harness. The obd2 ecu if is usdm will have to be re-flashed to be able to work with your existing keys, if its a jdm obd2 ecu then no there are no immobilizers to worry about. If using the obd1 ecu the only thing you have to worry about is using a jumper harness so it plugs into your obd2a ecu plugs and using a chip with an h22 baseamp on it so it will run your car properly.

Yes if its a jdm ecu like a p5m it will be direct fit and work for you but they are expensive your best bet in this case would be to get an obd1 p28 chiped ecu with a jumper harness. Do you know what model ecu you have now in your prelude?
Im not exCtly sure because I havent gotten around to takin it out really cause when I tried, the top nut on the cover wasnt budging. But my guess is that it would be a obd1. It says no link on when you use the obd2 scanner & I bought her with a swap already done . Im actually gonna try again with some different methods when its lighter out to see if I can get the but off
All you have to do to verify if its obd1 or obd2 is pull the carpet back by the passenger side footwell and look at the ecu thats why I posted the pics up to give you a better idea of what to look for.
