Default Replacing ignition coils in '12 Civic

I have a 2012 Civic LX Auto with 150k miles. I've really had no problems whatsoever other than a small tear in the air intake boot which was fixed and just general maintenance things (new spark plugs at 100k, etc.).

I'm looking to refresh some aging parts and was wondering if it was advised to put new ignition coils in? I've read online that in coil-over-plug you usually only replace plugs and not the coils? Are they something you don't really replace unless you know there's a problem?

I'm thinking it couldn't hurt to throw four brand new ones in for $50/pop.

Thanks

No, it definitely isn't something normal to just replace. Depending on manufacturer coils can outlast the vehicle. Others are prone to failure and will have to be replaced multiple times. The newer engines are more sensitive to these types of issues and it will throw a code to let you know there is a problem. You can typically test them to see if they are within range as well.

If you are worried it may leave you stranded, then you may as well replace everything on the entire car - heck just buy a new car. Most people don't drive as much as you, so it kind of comes down to personal preference, and what you are comfortable with. I personally would just leave them alone and focus on wear items instead.
