Rattling sound when accelerating
Whats up guys? So my prelude makes a rattling sound when accelerating or Revving in neutral. I usually dont rev in neutral at all but I did this time to pinpoint the sound and figure out what It might be. The noise is is like a loose rattling sound, like something is hitting or almost grinding in the bay. I got the car from a guy who had it parked since last snow storm he says. The clutch is going but I already have a new stg 1 kit Im going to put in. The motor is swapped (papers & all) and I gotta check engine on also and I cant figure the code because the obd2 scanner says no link when I took her to autozone. I read something about swaps frying the ecu or something like that but idk. I know the sound is coming from the engine bay or possibly the tranny. So, I'll be in 5th gear going round 55 and then I'll try to accelerate & the rpms will go up but my speed goes up slowly. I can only recall this happening in 5th. I forgot to mention in the beginning that Im going in for a tune up later on today (ET). Hopefully they can give some insight as to what it might be but I wanted some feedback from you guys as well.
Sounds like a clutch issue if the RPMs are climbing but the speed is not. Does the noise sound internal (I.e. Clutch chatter or TOB) or does it sound more like external noise as if something is lose and banging around?
When I got my Prelude 2 years ago It made this metallic rattling sound and I was told it was coming from the transmission, ended up being a bracket by the exhaust manifold
Throw out bearing. Rattling noises could always be something simple like was said, a lose bracket or heat shield etc but if your also having clutch issues with the noise, I.e. Revving without increasing power/speed etc, I would think the noise was related to something in that region such as clutch disc, pressure plate, TOB or flywheel bolts

It's not a difficult process on these Hondas so you guys should be fine. Just make sure while your in there you change the bearing as well, and most reputable kits will come with a new one anyway. Also make sure the flywheel surface is prepped and resurface if necessary. This is often overlooked but will greatly effect the life and performance of your new clutch kit. Also make sure everything including flywheel bolts are torqued down to spec, as they can become loose over time if not fully seated and that can cause noise/vibration as well as lead to other driveline issues down the road.
Good luck!
