Im new to this site and i want to ask if which intake manifold would be better for my car. Im using ang b16a2 engine.

Specs:
Type R camshaft
Apex-i cam gears
Stock bore, con rods, pistons

Depends on what you're going for, top end or low end. Considering the B16 is pretty much a top-end only engine (meaning it makes almost all its power as a result of spinning to high RPMs, not as a result of having a larger displacement or a long stroke) I would go for something with short, fat runners and a large plenum, maybe an Edelbrock Victor X or an OEM Civic Type R manifold.

Just remember, you need one for a B16 head, an Integra Type R style manifold will not fit.

 

Thank you sir. My latest time on quarter-mile was 13.7sec. I just want the car to reach at least below 13.5 by doing some upgrades on my intake manifold and throttle body. I have a skunk2 pro series with a 70mm throttle body but im not sure yet if it will perform better compared to my p30 manifold.

 

B16 and ITR use the same PR3 head so an ITR manifold WILL fit a b16.

 

That's what I thought too. But B18C1 and B18C5 IM's aren't interchangeable.

EDIT: Also, 13.7s is very respectable for a b16a with the mods you currently have. What chassis is it in, and is it gutted?

 

It's on an EG6 chassis sir. I just took the back seats and the passenger seat.

 

I seriously doubt a stock replacement intake manifold is going to shave two tenths off a quarter mile time. What ECU are you using, though? Has the car been tuned? You'd see more benefit from that than you would a different intake manifold.

 

The ECU is tuned already sir. Do I still have to retune it if im going to replace them? Thank you.

 

You shouldn't need a re-tune just for a stock-to-stock manifold swap.

Do you run in a class that requires OEM hardware? If not, then the Edelbrock Performer X is made for 8300 RPM, and the Victor X is made for 10,000 RPM. Both would flow significantly better, and give you more power, than any OEM option. If you get an aftermarket intake manifold, and if your tuning is cheap/free (or if you're trying to actually make money off the car), then I would get it re-tuned.

We've already covered the whole difference between intake manifolds, but he's building for drag racing. Top end is exactly what he needs more of.

 

Even if it was a street car, how much low end are you going to get from a B16? Not much. In my opinion, I'd play to the strong suit of the motor you're building.

 

I don't see much benefit from an aftermarket IM without supporting mods (head, cams, compression, injectors, decent header....TB). Especially with a baby stroke B16. I've owned a B16 swap in my EH3. I got more out of CTR cams/ITR springs then I would've ever got out of a aftermarket IM.

Fast times for sure (unless it's with slicks, then that's about normal from my experience).

 

As he said, he already has type R cams. Considering a header is bolt-ons 101, if he has cams and cam gears, it's a safe bet he has a header.

 

Sorry, I meant all of those parts together. I wasn't trying to say he didn't have a header.

I figure head work would be my next step.

 

Thank you for those infos sirs. Last question, changing the stock p30 throttle body (58mm) to (68mm) skunk2 pro series is ok? Do i still have to retune the ECU for that upgrade?

 

Stock throttle body found on a p30 manifold is 60mm, not 58. Adding a larger throttle body may net you only couple hp, but only after some fine tuning on the dyno, provided you have an ecu upgrade you can tune with

 

Thank you for that Info sir. Sorry about the wrong info about the size of the throttle body. Ill try putting the 68mm throttle body with ITR manifold. I'll give you an update after retuning the ECU. Thank you

 

Hello! I Already installed the Skunk2 throttle body with CTR manifold. It runs good with it. Just another question regarding spark plugs, im currently using NGK iridium. Are there any brand that performs better? Plugs that are available here are Denso and NGK only. Thanks

 

NGK is all you need for plugs and wires.
