My family purchased a 199x civic coupe (no a/c) a couple years ago and haven't been using it. I went to crank it up and it wouldn't catch. These wires seemed to have been fried, which explains why the car wouldn't start! (Wires right above the ignition coil) anyone have any ideas why?
Ok.. You don't know what year it is? No problem, we can help you determine that, but can you post a pic?
Also.. "won't start".. It has gas and compression? Forgive me if you said so, but, has it ever run before? I know you suspect No Spark. So you have Crank No Start. Yes?
I can't tell based on the up close picture but it looks like an oxygen sensor plug
You probably have a few blown fuses as well.
Your best bet is to re piN the plug
Damn, seriously?
OP thats your distributor plug. It looks like it got chewed up really. You can go to the junkyard and cut one that you need or buy an entire engine harness just to be on the safe side, god knows what else is chewed up.
That's the distributor side of the distributor plug on a '96 - '98 Civic. Replace the distributor and see what happens. I don't think the wiring got fried, it looks like it was chewed by mice, rats, or squirrels.
1998 Civic DX Coupe. Sorry - I have a lot to learn about posting on forums.
Cranks, but no "catch." Seemingly because the wired are fudged. It ran 3 years ago when it was purchased. Plenty of time for squirrels or mice to chew the wires up. Looks like they chewed up the o2 sensor wire as well!
Ok, I borrowed the distributer unit from my personal car. Same engine. Started up fine!
Two problems though: 1) the engine seems to be revving itself! It's a low rev. But definitely revving. I don't think it's connected to the harness issue. I'll post a video soon.
2) the radiator fan won't come on! Is there a fuse I should check? Or a wire location to look for more chewing?
