So was just driving down the road today and my a/c was on and all the sudden a loud screeching noise came on and my car didn't smell or anything and when I turned off a/c sound went away or after letting screeching go on for a minute it would go away. I'm guessing it is the a/c compressor belt but what do you guys think? Thank you in advance

 

Inspect/tighten belt and go from there.

 

^ what he said, also to try and isolate the noise which you already have done by switching ac on and off is spraying inside of belt with wd-40 or similar lubricant. If you have correct tension but still have the noise and it goes away after spraying it replace the belt.
