You need a VSS from any OBD0 B-series car....D-series may work too, but im unsure....
The VSS will make the vtec at all ever if it is the problem....know what I mean?? In other words if your vtec is sporatic or it works sometimes and not others, your problem is most likely not in the VSS....

The ports are for power steering fluid, it has something to do with the PS system. If you don't have it, it most likely is not affecting anything.

The VSS has nothing to do with VTEC.

This couldn't be further from the truth. The VSS must be working for VTEC to engage. On a non-chipped ECU if the ECU doesn't see VSS input it will think the vehicle isn't moving and will not let VTEC engage to protect the engine. IIRC it is around 6 mph for the permissive.

Here OP, read through this link below:

Has anyone ever heard of putting a LS fifth gear in a b16 transmission? I hear it extends the power and makes it so you're not 4000 rpm in 5th gear at 80 miles an hour. I wonder how hard it would be to swap it. If anyone knows please PM me

dont do it, the gap between the b16 4th and ls 5th is too big. you will drop a solid 1000 rpm making any speed between 40 and say 60 mph either totally bogging out in 5th or revving up a bunch in 4th. a gsr 5th would be good its close enough that its not laggy bad when u upshift and will still save you a few hundred rpm from a b16 5th.
