D4 blinking, speedometer not moving
So, I have replaced my transmission in my automatic 2000 civic ex, however we did not use the matching ECU (containing the matching TCM)..
After putting in the new one, the D4 light is blinking, speedo doesn't work, and jerking hard between park>reverse/drive. First gear is very weak and sluggish but after that it shifts amazing.
All solenoids tested good. However previous owner has hacked up the wiring harness and makes me think that after removing the transmission, a wire was tampered with and now causing the issue but don't know where of course, that's if that's the problem.

Just tried the matching ECU that was with the transmission. Plugged in, everything lit up but car wouldn't start, 5 seconds later smelled like the ECU fried. Opened the case and nothing on the ECU looks fried at all. Don't know what to do at this point. Gonna get the matching wiring harness tomorrow and see what happens there.
I've checked fuse 15 several times just in case and even replaced it just for the heck of it, still no go.
Donor trans and ECU came from a 99 EX.
Opened ECU and no visual sign of damage.

If you reset the ECU, which of the codes returns after turning key to ON(II) or cranking the engine?
Does the starter crank but engine doesn't start?
How did you check it? Try voltage testing fuse 15 (click Test Fuses link in my signature).

Too late to test now. I just checked fuse to see if it was blown, but replaced anyway just incase. I will check voltage tomorrow and check codes after ECU reset.
I'll reply back here then.

You could try being understanding that I DON'T understand what you're talking about. I'm not personally working on the car myself, my brother is helping me, I'm just helping do the research.
