Default 2000 Gsr swap into 96 civic EE question. Please Help!!

Hi i recently ordered a 2000 Gsr swap with only 13k miles on it from a friend in california. It looks great and runs great he told me. But when i recently asked another guy about the swap he told me that the gsr ecu's in the 2000's have a special thing so that the motor can not be swapped into a different car. If this is true do u guys know anything i can do??? Do i need to find another ecu or what. Thanks for your help.

get a 96-98 ecu, you'll need it anyways.
