Start with a compression test and post up the results. We csn go from there..

Is the smoke blue, white, or black?

White smoke usually means coolant burning.

white is coolant burning, blueish is oil burning, black is unburnt fuel

the simplest thing, me and friend cleaned out the whole fuel system and it never occurred to us to check the oil, it was overfilled

Lol. Yes that can definitely cause excessive oil consumption

That could just be all the crap blowing out of an exhaust system that looks like it's been sitting outside for a really long time. Having too much oil in the engine wont cause smoke to spew out of the exhaust. In order for the oil to cause excessive smoke from the exhaust, it needs to leak past the piston rings and burn.

With that said, are you sure you checked your oil correctly? Did you check it immediately after taking the car for a drive?

Unhook the PCV tube that is hooked up to your intake manifold (it's the big one that is centered on the front). See if the smoke stops. I had this happen to me and once I unhooked the hose the smoked stopped. You will see oil all up in the hose. If that is the case replace the PCV valve.

yes the car did sit for a very long time before i build her from ground up, according to the previous owner, but the smoke does smell like oil and it is really overly filled
