04 Civic Air Conditioning Problem
Hey everyone, slowly but surely I'm going to get this car fixed and reliable. Just today I tried to use the A/C. I thought it was working, but it quit eventually (I'm not entirely sure that it was working, but it seemed like it was, just really weak, then it quit altogether). The dealership I had it at replaced the fuse box and fan relay when they did the head gasket. I haven't actually seen either fan turn on, but the weather hasn't been that warm yet. I've never seen the temp gauge go high or anything at operating temperature besides normal (just below half). When I turned the A/C on and opened the hood, the clutch was not engaged and neither fan was spinning. I bought a cheap kit from Walmart and plugged it on the low line and the pressure was in the red, and didn't seem to want to take anything from the bottle. I'm not really sure if the A/C worked when I bought the car, because I bought it during the winter. The A/C light does come on, but I do not receive A/C. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!

Sorry for the delayed response. I think I fixed it. Through some troubleshooting, I narrowed it down to the thermal protector, and paid too much money to have a shop confirm.
After buying the new part, my dog ate most of the new sensor wires, so I cobbled a mix of the old and new wires together. I ended up removing the power steering pump, and alternator to get to the sensor location on the compressor. Unfortunately, I just didn't see a way to do it without. I ruined the old sensor because it was seized to the compressor. Years of MN winters were not kind. I wrecked an alternator in the process because the stupid dealership used air tools to bolt the little nut on the back of it, so naturally it snapped when I was loosening it.
It hasn't been warm enough last night or this morning to tell if it's working or not, but at least now I know it doesn't have a leak and the electrical is good!
More than happy to walk through some troubleshooting steps with people if they're having similar issues to what I did.

Oh boy does it work! Freezing cold. So cold that now I question if the AC is working in my truck... I love my Civic! This is totally the car I would've loved to have as a teen, I think that's why I like it so much. I probably would have beat the **** out of it as a teen though, probably best I waited until now to get it. Haha!
