97 accord lx and 96 accord
Hi I just have a question im looking to get advise on I have a 97 accord lx auto and looking at a 96 manual dont know the sub model yet will find out if I need to. Now the 96 manual heads bad can o swap the head from my 97 accord auto! Please any info appreciated
Your post is a little hard to read, but if i understand it right, youre wanting to replace your current engine from your 97 accord LX(F22B2) with the engine from a 96 accord(Unknown)? Is your current engine bad? Or are you wanting to go from auto to manual?
If your current engine is bad...and the donor engine needs a new head, then yeah you could use your current head(The blocks are the same) But I would have the head checked first.
Or are you just wanting to change from an auto to a manual? Try and be a little more clear about what you are trying to do.

Hi tim yes im sorry bout that yes the head on the 96 accord manual has the bad head on it. I ws wonder if I could swap the heads over from my 97 accord lx auto. I just dont know of they will work iv ask couple ppl some ppl say yea with a possibility of having to change parts over besides the head like ecu or intake manifold. But if its the same motor then it should work right.
Both of these engines are OBD2. Parts from the F22B2 (lx) and F22B1 (ex) are interchangeable. If your swap engine is an F22B1 VTEC, you will require the ECU and harness, along with a few other parts. There are a few SOHC VTEC head swap threads around.
If the swap engine is an F22B2 THE 96 and 97 are identical. All you will need is the head.
Just out of curiosity, what is wrong with your current head?

yes im working on seeing if the 96 aka manual head is bad according to owner. I have running 97 lx accord that I was going to take off the head and swap it to the manual so I have a manual cause I didnt want auto but couldnt go wrong for 200 bucks at the time. But yes I belive it the same b2 motor ill find more info on the car guy really lacks on getting back to ppl
Cheaper to swap the entire engine. if you know it is good, instead of just the head. You wont have to buy a head gasket. This is assuming it is a f22b2, nonvtec. Which is like your current LX. If it is an EX, then youll need the ecu and do some wiring mods(Or Replace wiring harness)

Then everything is a direct swap.
If you are doing the auto to 5spd swap you will want to use the wire harness and ECU out of the 5spd chassis. There are a couple 5spd swap threads as well. Take a look in the FAQ.
