Default 2001 Prelude momentary loss of power/check engine light.

Usually while accelerating for a split second I lose power, check engine light flashes and the radio/lights dim then it goes back to normal. This happened around 7 time in a 10 min drive. Definitely seems like an electrical issue. Has anyone had this happen or know the cause?

Auto with 160K

Sounds like it could be your main relay is going out on you.

Im in agreement with you tamboo. Have your alternator tested and check your battery voltage see if its still good.

Check for codes first.

This happens for a split second and returns to normal. Still might be an alternator issue? The check engine light also flashes for a split second doesn't stay on. I also can hear an audible "click" possibly from the main relay?

I can check for codes when the check engine light DOES NOT stay on? It flashes for a second.

i was able to get the brushes from rockauto, mine were near toast at exactly 160k.
looks like they dont have them for every honda tho. the trick is to use a ziptie
or something to hold the brushes down while theyre installed on the shaft.
will be interesting to see how long the low rent solution lasts. yes i'm a cheap@ss....

Did the ignition switch recall affect all years of the 5th gen or just the earlier ones? The symptoms he's describing are exactly what you would get with the ignition switch failure.

Well he can call his Honda dealership and give them the vin number of his prelude and see if it qualifies for the ignition switch recall. Whatever you do do not have the dealership charge you for it. If it doesnt qualify then simply replace it yourself it shouldnt take you longer then 30 minutes to replace.

It DOES NOT have to stay on.

It doesn't sound like you've ever checked for codes before.
