Default ZC or B16A1?

Im sure this has been covered but I cant find any topics when I search. Im going to get a CRX for my winter car and I was wondering which engine would put the most power down if I turboed it? Remember this is a winter/project car and I really wouldnt want to spend more money on a B16 if it doesnt do too much more power

B16, hands down. more expensive swap, and it is worth it. this has been debated far too many times, surprised a search didn't pull anything up. if the ZC was so great, why was the B16 in honda's sport compacts up until 00?

For power, the B16 is going to win hands down.

After having a taste of each, here is my conclusion.

The B16 is a great engine, especially for aftermarket support; however, it lacks torque. If you are planning on adding on a turbo, this will help greatly. The fact that it has so much aftermarket support is one of the main reasons I would suggest it. Finding parts for it is incredibly easy, and incredibly cheap.

The ZC is a good engine. Rated at 130hp and 108pds torque, this engine is by no means a slug. It only lacks 3 pds of torque compared to the B16, but it doesn't have the HP and VTEC the B16 posesses.

Your budget is going to determine what you are going to need to go with. If you have a smaller limit, and want turbo now, then I would suggest the ZC. If you want an engine that is going to be a lot easier to add on to later on, but cost a little more now (which you might have to sacrifice getting the turbo right now), go with the B16. If I could have turbo'd my B16 (90 CRX Si, B16a1, S1 tranny), I would have. I wanted boost thought, and I wanted it right away. That is why I sold my CRX and got the H/B. I wax N/A B16's and B18's (LS, GS-R's) all day w/ my ZC, but the second they do some upgrades I'm toast... Unless you're going to be doing some bottom end work, you're only looking at about a max of 200-220hop from the ZC bottom end. The rods are like spagetti, and once you start pushing the limits over 10psi, you're asking for trouble.

If you want a cheap swap, a cheap engine, and one that's really easy to turbo @8psi daily w/o any problems, get the ZC.
If you want a more expensive swap, with a little more with, and that has incredible aftermarket support and easily blown, get the B16.

Im kinda leaning towards the ZC since I want to spend money on my R. But teh B16 is a nicer looking engine and has better numbers. Its a tuffy hopefully a great deal on either one of these will make the decesion

something newer? the d17's suck if that is what you mean by newer, it is so hard to extract extra power from them.

If I had the $$$$ I'd go with a junk yard turbo ZC. This would be about the same price as b16 but more HP. Say, $600 for the engine and another $800 for the turbo stuff...but if money is tight, just go with the ZC for now. The ZC is about the easiest swap that can be done. All you have to switch over is about 7 wires! The b16 is a bit more complicated...mount, shift linkage, more wires.... just my$.02 worth.

Just get a new R motor and put your old one in the CRX.
hehe, two b18c5 cars. Except then the CRX would be quicker.
