hey guys are 88 starters different than 89-91?
u guys are both WRONG dork hehe yeh the 88 has a nippon deso starter and is harder to ****** take on and off than the 89-91 mistuba starter wich has a different setup so teh rear bolt is more accessable trust me my family has a junkyard and we have at least 10 EDs sitting i have my 88 hatch and another 88 dx and teh starters from the 90 hatch was weird looking but fit mistuba
According to the Majestic Honda website. The 88-91 all use the same starter. The have probably quit producing the 88 starters which probably were different. It seems as if everything is different on the 88's. Also, I think all of the flywheels are the same size. The difference is in the surface area that the clutch disk mates to.

Le tme restate that then.
I pulled a starter from a 89 DX, and put it in my 90 si. My POS still starts.

the 88's had the nippondenso starter and the 89-91 the mitsuba. i believe the nippondenso is more expensive too. I have an 88, and i have the nippondenso, trust me, theres quite a bit of difference in price
Does this mean I can bolt my 88 std starter and flywheel to my 90 CRX SI trans and run it.
its like asking for alternator... there are nippon denso and mitsu... wich they both have the plug diff on the back.. but has same function and style.. i have seen a 88 DX starter being used on a 90 STD.... they both bolted right in...no problems so far,,,
