Default experince with maaco

My car already has a pretty good paint job, but it has some road tar on the paint under the doors. and the front and back bumpers have some chips. So i don't really need a whole paint job just some reapairs. Have any of you guys ever been to maaco? How did you cars come out? And how $$$ is it.

I've never taken a car there, but a friend who's a tech at one of the local Honda dealers had a car come on one day that had just came from Macco. It had bird crap on the roof that Macco had painted over. So, after hearing that and having a different friend who took his van there and getting it back totally looking like crap. I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone.

maaco is the looowwww end of the paint spectrum....you can get a full paint job for 1g...look somewhere else, imo.

I have seen a couple of Maaco jobs. My car right now has a Maaco job on it (It was done before I got the car). They didn't do any body work, and didn't worry about doing the jams/hood; then decided to paint it the mother of all colors, black. It looks pretty good from afar, until you start seeing the dents/dings...

Check the link in my sig for a pic of her.

I had my first car painted there about 4 years ago and the quality of the work wasnt very good. I had orange peel in some spots, chipping and some runs. I also found what seemed to be rocks in the paint that eventually cracked out. The only good thing about the paint was that it held the shine great for the 2 years I had the car. My friends little brother had his car painted too at the same one and his paint went dull in less than 6 months. They went back but were unsuccessful in getting it repainted.

They have the means to good paint jobs its just they do them so fast and for so cheap that the quality of the work sucks but what do you expect for $199.

Dude I paid over $300 for paint alone, maaco uses the cheapest possible paint they can get there hands on, they don't even sell it in local auto paint stores it's so cheap.
Never mind the fact that they don't prep your old paint at all, sometimes they don't even wash the dirt off.

Its your looking for cheap, prep your own car then have them paint it. A paint job is 90% prep work anyway.

The prep work is a majority of what you pay for when you get a car painted. The most expensive part of a paint job will always be the prep work unless you go with color changing and special mix paint, then you get ripped for the prep and the paint

This could not be more true. I've gone to school for auto collision repair and refinishing and prep work is what is critical. Anyone with a steady hand can lay down a decent coat of paint. But if you have a straight body then you should be okay. I had my 66 caprice painted at MAACO a few years ago. NONE of the body work was done there and it came out pretty damn good for the price. When you pay $400 for paint on a car that size you don't expect show quality. But it's been 4 years now and the paint still looks like it did when I brought it home. Ofcourse that is with proper care. They get a from me if you aren't looking for show quality

doesnt maaco mixes their paint with their clear coating???

from what i heard, their light sanding involve using s.o.s pads

u get what u paid for a maaco, cheap and dirty

save some more $$$ and get a real paint job

yea its all in the prepping...my friend prepped his on hb and had it painted at maaco...looks really clean and shiny...everytime i see it i inspect it because i want to get my rex painted soon...my other friend got his teg painted white and his came out clean too...he's had it for about 3 months now and still shines and hasnt faded...i guess the maaco we have down here is pretty good compared to the other maacos...just prep it yourself and it'll turn out good

the only reason i heard that the paint job is shitty is b/c they dont prep the car properly. i also think the reason my bfs kit turned out nice was b/c it was already prepped

macco's paint is an enamel based paint, not clear coat base coat. You gotta pay more for the clear jobs. You get what you pay for. You shouldn't complain about a $200 paint job. Wtf you expect it to win shows?

My friend got a maaco apint job over 2 years ago and his car still looks good. It all depends on the maaco you go to cause there indepently owed and also on which paint job you choose. Im going there in april to get m car done and get the 400- 500 paint job they have there.

I had a friend who painted his 96 accord coupe IS300 blue, and maaco did the following for $1k

Not sure if they prepped

Shaved everything
painted car, hood, trunk, door jams

Looked damn good IMO, not sure if it lasted, he turned around and sold it

had a car paints at maaco, its actually not bad if you get the high package. Dont do the cheap stuff you see on tv. They dont even do a good job of sanding. for 199, i think they just paint over the original paint. But 500 bucks my maaco sanded it down all the way and sprayed it pretty good, no runs at all. added 200 to get sprayed clear coat. Came back all shinny and smooth. I guess it depends on where you take it to and who does it. had some paint on the window trim, but easily removed. you get what you pay for, and for 700 bucks i got a pretty good job!
