Default B18cr and stock ecu

Hey guys I've been searching this up but I couldn't find anything on it, if you find a link please post it.
I will be doing a swap on my em1, a 97 spec b18c type R, i will be running stock ecu for a while but I do plan on getting hondata s300. I know that I will have to convert to obd1 but I am not sure of I can use the jdm ecu since it is obd2a if I'm not mistaking.
What ecu can I run to make the most power?

needs to be a obd1 computer hence the converting to obd1. or find a ecu that has the obd2 connector but is obd1 on the inside so you don't have to run a jumper harness. I think ha motorsports has those. cheaper route is to buy a obd2-obd1 jumper and a p28 or converted p06.

I am thinking of running a p28 and a obd2b to obd1 converter harness, also I live in virginia and for some cars they do a diagnostics check for emissions.
I'm planning on keeping the jdm ecu , that way they can run the diagnostics with no problem.
Would this work?
I know I would have to disconnect the p28 and so forth.

No, you'll need a usdm obd2 ecu to guarantee that to work.

You'll need to make sure that everything is working correctly. Then for inspection, swap in the obd2 ecu a day or two before the inspection and/or make sure that you've completed the required drive cycle to set the readiness monitors.

Like Adam said, the JDM ECU can't be read with US Scan Tools therefore you won't pass inspection. Your best bet is to follow his advice.

Thank for all the help you guys, I heard I can run the stock b16a2 ecu and the engine will run fine.
If not I will have to find a usdm ecu that will work with inspection.

Probably won't run well enough to pass emissions if you have a sniff test, but might pass a plug in if you have everything hooked up correctly.

Why not find a usdm itr ecu and defeat the immobilizer? That's the correct way to do it.

Or a p75 obd2a-b Ecu. (You have a jumper harness so either of these will work)

I just passed emissions/inspection in NC with a stock LS p75 ecu and a 96' ITR swap in an em1. Just take it easy and drive like you've got some sense.

Drive 50-100 miles on the p75 to set the readiness monitors like stated above. After passing inspection, swap back to your JDM P73 ITR ecu.

There's alot of options out there, I don't really wanna go with the usdm itr ecu bc of the immobilizer. I won't have to get an inspection Until May 2016 .

But how do you like the swap in your em1? As far as power ,notice a lot of difference .

When comparing the B18C to the original B16A2, there is a noticeable power/tq gain for sure. However, the B18C still lacks in the torque department and that is what the heavy-ish EM1 chassis needs to "feel quick". I do have stock exhaust, intake, ecu, power steering and A/C for I plan to keep the car original as possible with the exception of a B18C longblock as opposed to a B16A2 longblock.

Immobilizer is not actually a problem.

Victory!!! finally i found a way to bypass immobilizer with OBD2 [Archive] - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums
