ECU not reading HO2S?

My ECU is not reading O2 sensor?
Car: Honda Civic 97 si
EJ9 Hatchback
Manual Transmission
Fuel Injected
D14A4 Engine
I disconnected the connector on the primary HO2S (oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold) just to see if it would cause a MIL and subsequent code.
The ECU noticed the MAP and IAT missing, but not that the HO2S was gone, is it not supposed to?
