Opinions on AEM Bypass Valve
i just Bought one of the AEM Bypass valves because where i live it likes to rain and snow alot, but do i really need one? i read past threads about it and most everyone said it sucks and is pointless and that the filter has to be completly submerged to suck up any water but on some other forums people have been saying its important to have and what not. so what your guys opinion on the bypass valve?
i would use one personally, i mean on the off occasion that you do hit a puddle then it becomes a good idea, but if you are careful you could probibly do without one. and i hear all this talk about snow, and i don't know how snow would matter since it can't get therough the filter anyway, certainly not in quanity.
I can see it an effective safegaurd against driving
in all the stupid freezingrain this winter that'll soak
that filter. I've pulled over on the highway to move
the filter under the hood. It was soaked.
Think "safegaurd".

waste of money in my opinion. you would need to basically cover the entire filter with water to create enough pressure to open the bypass flaps.

one time i didnt have a choice but to run through a really deep puddle. i just shut my car off splashed the **** through it, cranked my car back up and kept driving
Peace of Mind !
Why not ?
I got it for that reason, just so I don't have to think about it on a rainy day. Especially since it's my daily driver.
But it's true you would have to run into a lake ( BIG puddle ) in order for the bypass to work

I don't know about you guys, but on a dark and stormy night, when I'm going around a corner, and see a puddle, I don't stop my car, get out, get a tape measure, measure the depth of the puddle and then decide if I should drive through it!.... I've heard my by pass valve go off at least twice, sorta sounds like a turbo pop off valve. I think it's cheap insurance against a very expensive repair bill.
Sure its a good idea, but it is proven that it robs HP...The whole point of a CAI is to gain HP. If your that worried about hydrolocking your car, you mine as well get a short ram.

You should ask yourself this: are you a serouse racer(meaning do you try to adstract every ounce of hp from your car?)
OR are you a import fan(just doing as a hobbie and also for fun but not tooooo deep into)
If you are a serouse racer than "NO" with the bypass valve it does make less hp than w/out one.
If you are a persone who like to play with their car to a safe amount of reliableity and performance than it would be a SAFE and CHEAP measure of protection. Would you rather have it one your CAI and not have to look for puddles durning rainy nights and loose maybe 1.5hp or would you rather not have it and have to drive like a scared bisach during a thurderstorm. .... peace of mind of your car is a wonderful thing to have when driving
The last time I heard my bypass valve go off was in a rain storm, with maybe six inches of standing water. There was Deffinetly not enough water to cover the filter but..... There's the wake in front of your tire, the wakes of the cars around you, wakes hitting curbs, how well your filter cavity holds back water, and drains water. So don't think that by just avoiding foot deep puddeles your safe. Anyone else here ever hear there bypass valves go off?
i dont have a bypass on my aem and i have also have just been driving along not hitting deep puddles and i hear this gargaling sound because water has gotten in the filter. I dont think u really need a bypass valve because of the HP loss but u never know what can happen.
